Long-awaited Board Game Cafe
Set to Open Next week

While a few construction-related delays have pushed backed the original spring opening date, The Board and Brew is ready to open their doors to the public next week.  The board game cafe is a blend of an independent coffee house and a relaxed entertainment venue centered around more than 500 board games. Located on the ground floor of The Varsity student housing complex at 8150 Baltimore Avenue, the cafe will offer specialty coffees and teas along with a menu of homemade treats and small plates.

The brains behind the concept, Brian McClimens and Benjamin Epstein, are both graduates from the University of Maryland and they hope to bring a different form of entertainment to College Park. Beyond the vast selection of board games, the owners will have regular events like open-mic, trivia, and tournaments. Customers can rent board games for a flat fee of $5.00 for an unlimited amount of time.

The venue is the first grant recipient through the City’s Commercial Tenant Improvement Program, which was designed to attract small, locally-owned businesses through matching grants for build-out expenses.

The owners have created a parking map to help customers find the easiest options, which include on-site parking behind the business and free afternoon and weekend parking on the University of Maryland campus.
