OpenBarre is open for business!

College Park is now the home of OpenBarre, a new fitness studio, founded by University of Maryland alumni Lauren Filocco. OpenBarre aims to provide a unique workout experience that incorporates pilates, yoga and ballet with other exercises like squats and planks. There are four types of barre classes offered and you can sign up for classes on the studio’s website here!

COMING SOON…SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY, AND SELFIES!

Small Business Saturday will take place on Nov 26th, and College Park is going to celebrate with a #ShopSmall Selfie event!

How it works:

1.) Show your support by taking selfies at your favorite local businesses on Nov 26th.
2.) Tag the businesses in each photo and post the photos using the following hashtags: #ShopSmall and #ShopCollegePark.

Mtg. for Downtown Businesses: Wednesday November 2nd, 1:30PM

The next meeting of the Downtown College Park Management Authority will take place on Wednesday, November 2nd, 2016 at 1:30pm. The meeting will occur in the Council Chambers in City Hall (4500 Knox Road).

The following topics will be discussed during the meeting:

  • Small Business Saturday
  • Permit Parking Fees in the Parking Garage
  • Future Items and Plans

Business Improvement Fund

The College Park Business Improvement Fund is once again receiving applications. Applications will be accepted from now until January 20th. All applications submitted will then undergo an evaluation based on criteria outlined here in the program guidelines. Live Smart, Eat Local Tour to be hosted by Krazi Kebob/ Bread N Greens

On Monday, October 24th at 7:00pm, Krazi Kebob and Bread N Greens will be hosting the next stop in the Live Smart, Eat Local Tour. This month the featured speakers are Ray Benton and Trinity Greer, who will be discussing the Junior Tennis Champions Center. Krazi Kebob offers a combination of rich flavorful Indian-Pakistani cuisine with Mexican tastes and style, while Bread N Greens specializes in salad served three different ways: a classic salad bowl, served inside of a baguette, or smoothie. The restaurants are located at 4427 Lehigh Road.

New to College Park, Paisano’s

College Park’s most recent Pizza Restaurant, Paisano’s, opened it’s first University oriented location on Baltimore Ave. this fall. The gourmet pizza restaurant is very interested in being an active member of the community and has reached out to University of Maryland teams as well as local law enforcement.

Paisano’s prides themselves on making almost all of their ingredients fresh from scratch daily and the effort is paying off as the reactions by residents who have tried Paisano’s has been overwhelmingly positive. Paisano’s has dine in, take-out, delivery and catering for not only gourmet pizza, but also salads, pastas, subs, and more.

Fat Pete’s Comes to College Park

On October 8th the much anticipated barbeque restaurant Fat Pete’s officially opened it’s College Park location with over 500 people coming by on Saturday.

Fat Pete’s is located at 7406 Baltimore Ave and is ranked among the “Best BBQ Joints in DC”. Fat Pete’s College Park location specializes in smoked meats and vegetables.

Fat Pete’s BBQ Meat & Vegetable Smoking Company is open 7 days a week beginning at 11:30am and is available for private events, parties, and carry-out orders. Delivery will start soon on the University of Maryland Campus and the surrounding area.

METRO Closes 91 Stations on Wednesday

Metro General Manager/CEO Paul J. Wiedefeld, with support from the Authority’s Board of Directors, today announced the full closure of the Metrorail system on Wednesday, March 16, for emergency inspections of the system’s third-rail power cables following an early morning tunnel fire yesterday. Aviation Museum Launches New Lecture Series

This Wednesday, the College Park Aviation Museum will launch their new Brown Bag Lunch & Learn Lecture Series. The event takes place on the second Wednesday of each month at 12pm, and lasts for approximately 30 minutes. Each month will feature a different topic and discussion. GREEN LINE: Buses replace trains at Greenbelt Station, 7 a.m. Saturday until closing Sunday
Throughout the weekend, Green Line service will operate at regular weekend intervals between College Park and Branch Ave stations. On Saturday and Sunday, no trains will run between College Park & Greenbelt to allow for construction of a new test track to accept Metro’s new fleet of 7000-series railcars. Free shuttle buses will run between College Park and Greenbelt.
