City Council Approves Relaunch of Downtown Farmers Market

After two years in operation, the Downtown Farmers Market is poised for major growth after our City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday night to approve a contract that enables the City to hire a market master to oversee the market. Previously run by one of the vendors, the new market master will be tasked with expanding the number of vendors and creating a vibrant event to energize Downtown College Park.

The City chose KSM Marketing, LLC to take on the role, as they currently operate two successful markets in the District of Columbia (Capital Harvest on the Plaza and DC CHEW). The team will provide day-of-market oversight, marketing services, social media outreach, vendor recruitment, and other services for the 2013 season.

The market expects to return previous vendors (Miller Farms, Bill’s Backyard BBQ, Bear’s Honeypot, and Heavenly Created Desserts) while adding numerous other vendors to diversify the products available. Additionally, KSM will focus on weekly events, including chef demos and nutritionist discussions.

The 2013 season is scheduled to begin on Sunday, April 14th in the City Hall parking lot. The time of the market will be from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm each week, so look for more information soon. The market will run every Sunday, barring inclement weather, through the middle of November.
