Free 6th Annual College Park Blues Festival This Saturday!

Saturday, November 2, 2013 – 6pm to 11:30pm 

With the onset of winter and cold weather, some of you may be singing the blues; which is a lot less fun than listening to them.  Luckily this Saturday there’s a  home remedy in store that can’t be beat.   It’s the 6th Annual College Park Blues Festival featuring:


Daddy Mack Blues Bandbringing the blues from Memphis, TN (Washington Post Going Out Guide features Daddy Mack Blues Band)

Stacy Brooks Blues Band  – DCBS Battle of the Bands Winner – help send them to Memphis for the International Blues Challenge (the ‘American Idol’ of the Blues)

DC Blues Society Band – featuring talented songstress Ayaba Bey

Little Bit a Blues – Piedmont Blues with National Endowment for the Arts recipient Warner Williams and WAMMIE Lifetime Achievement Winner Jay Summerour

These great bands and singers are premier in the world of blues and a good show is absolutely guaranteed.  As if that were not enough to entice you out, entry and parking is complete free, there’s food and beverages to go with the show, and there are some excellent door prizes being offered. Prizes include:

The Halloween Thing

This Saturday October 26th from 10 am 12- pm College Park Youth and Family Services is hosting its annual FREE Halloween celebration.  There will be a haunted hallway, arts and crafts, games, tattoos, face painting, raffle, costume parade, and more!

College Park Business Beat – October 2013 Edition

Each month the City of College Park’s Department of Planning, Community, and Economic Development publishes a newsletter to update residents and interested parties on the latest development projects, local business happenings, and community events. The newsletters alternate between a Development Update and Business Beat edition.

This month’s newsletter is the Business Beat (click here for the newsletter), which covers local business news including openings, closings, events, and other information of interest. The October edition features news on the opening of Slices Pizza Co. and Terrapin’s Turf as well as a forthcoming furniture store in north College Park.

College Park Day is HERE!

Join your friends, neighbors, and the whole College Park Community at the 4th AnnualCollege Park Day event on Saturday, October 19, 2013!

This year’s College Park Day has so much fun planned it’ll blow your socks right off.   With food vendors satisfying sweet to savory cravings with offerings of cupcakes and backyard BBQ, you should come hungry!  There will be entertainment from music to acrobatics and dance. This day is ready for everyone with booths and activities for people of all ages and a special kid zone to entertain the little ones.  On top of all this College Park aviation museum and the Wells Ice Rink is offering free admission to all residents of College Park, students, staff, and faculty (bring your ID). 

And while you’re out enjoying all this event has to offer, remember to give back to your community.  The College Park Community Food Bank will be collecting nonperishable items.  And after the event remember that some of the best restaurants in town are offering 10% discounts.
