College Park Welcomes Shop Made in Maryland

The new City Hall building in downtown College Park will feature retailer Shop Made in Maryland. This company showcases local made products. The City of College Park contributed a grant of $75,000 towards the construction buildout of the ground floor space.

The Maryland shop will include a small dining area serving Cameo Coffee and space to host events and classes for local merchants and artisans. There are plans to serve locally produced beer and wine.  Any local based makers and artists who want to sell their goods at the store should apply at shopmadeinmd.net.

Thus far, The Shop Made venture has had a tremendous impact in their partnering communities:

  • $4 million dollars directly back to local makers
  • 423 Makers served: 231 Makers and their products
  • 10% of Makers now have their storefronts
  • 98% of Makers saw a growth in business: 60% saw growth of more than 25%
  • 20% of Makers shifted from part time to full time
  • 43% of Makers have hired staff
  • 87% of Makers are women
  • 35% of Makers are people of color

Stacey Price, Co-founder of Shop Made In, concept was named the Washington Business Journal’s Small Business Owner of the Year in 2020 for her work.

The College Park shop will be the eighth store in the chain of Shop Made In. Shop Made also has an ecommerce site for local goods.
